In each class there are 3 skill levels, this list should help you choose the correct class, if you are still unsure please ask.
Novice
This level is for groomers with less than 2 yrs experience grooming dogs - however Novice groomers must move up to open when they have 2 years or more experience or have won at Novice level competing against 4 or more competitors or won Runner Up Best in Show or Best in Show
Open
This level is for groomers who have won a Novice Class or have over 2 years experience as a groomer, alternatively a novice may voluntarily choose this class. An open groomer must move up to Masters when they have won at this level competing against 4 or more competitors. This applies to each class competed in.
Masters
This level is for groomers who have won in the Open Class, a groomer may voluntarily choose this class.
LEVEL WINNERS THEN COMPETE FOR BEST IN GROUP
All Best In Group winners then compete for BEST IN SHOW (with the exception of model dogs)
BEST IN GROUP winners will be required to attend the BEST IN SHOW .
Competitors should arrive at least 45 mins before their class begins !
Contestants should bring -
Clean prepped dog (please refer to general rules)
Grooming Table
Grooming Tools, cordless clippers (preferred), if you only have corded clippers please advise us at the time of entry … Please Note any electrical equipment with a cord needs to be tagged & tested, this is a legal requirement.
Grooming jacket (recommend) please note clothing should not display logos or private business names, with the exception of that reflecting our competition sponsors, if you are unsure please ask.
Styling Products - sprays, styling gels and chalk (provided the chalk does not rub off on the judges hands in final judging). Styling products are limited to what is usually used in the conformation show ring to achieve breed standard.
Bows & accessories if permitted in your chosen class - Please refer to Class rules
Water (no glass bottles please)
Water bowl for your dog
Poop bags & wipes ( please clean up after your dog both inside & outside of the venue.
Dust pan/brush and bin liner - It is your responsibility to clean up your area after the competition!
All hair and tools should be removed from the table and the table may be covered with a tablecloth, contestants may use a comb before stacking their dog ready for the judges evaluation.
Judges will award placements - Best in group winner is required to attend the Best in show line up.
Now you can relax and enjoy your achievements and your beautiful grooms.
The Judges will be looking for - The quality of the groom! Is the dog well prepped, clean, Knot free! Is the dog groomed to breed standard (if applicable) The quality of the clipper and or scissor work, does this look neat, smooth, well blended. The technicality of the groom and the correct use of tools - clippers, scissors, stripping knives, carding tools. The degree of difficulty, have any faults been corrected. Is the profile of the dog well balanced. The degree of change from start to finish. The overall finished appearance.
